Current Good Manufacturing Practices

Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMPs) regulations were promulgated by the FDA to provide criteria for complying with provisions of the Federal, Food, Drug, an Cosmetic Act, which mandates that all human foods be free from adulteration.

It was established to prevent manufacturers for producing and selling adulterated product to public.

CGMP regulations are necessary to promote and protect the public health. It will benefits consumers economically and would benefit the industry.

This is because a CGMO rules would establish a minimum standard of practice for manufacturing and packaging of finished goods. CGMPs are the minimum sanitary and processing requirements necessary to ensure the production of wholesome food.

It describe the methods equipment, facilities and controls required for producing food products. CGMPs are built around safely, identity, strength, purity and quality of the products.

Good manufacturing practices should be selected and adopted before HACCP is implemented. Without the application of CGMP principles, an effective HACCP program can it be conducted.

In order to be compliance with CGMPs the management needs to have the proper organizational structure, have well-designed and well executed systems, and clearly defined work functions.

The areas that should be addressed through CGMPs are personnel hygiene and other practices, building and facilities, equipment and utensils and production and process controls.

For some companies with established processes based on existing food CGMP regulations, the transition would be relatively painless, while for many it will represent a significant increase in the level of documentation and testing.
